Baldwin's Bridge

The eight swing-bridges on the canal were replaced by fixed bridges during the time the canal lay derelict. Six of the swing-bridges have been reinstated. No. 5 swing-bridge was raised instead, by PCAS volunteers in the 1970s. The bridge, which is generally known as Baldwin's Bridge was still too low for some boats to pass under it and British Waterways took the opportunity to increase the headroom to about 8 ft when the bridge deck was replaced in the 1990s.
