Coates Bridge

Coates Bridge is another fine brick and sandstone road bridge, connecting Bielby with Thornton and Melbourne. It has undergone restoration and appears to be in sound condition. Like the other three road bridges on the canal it is a Grade II Listed structure. This photo was taken in 1992, prior to the restoration of Coates Lock, just behind the camera. Below Coates Bridge the canal is becoming overgrown with vegetation.
